Origins and History

Contemporary Illustration Printmaking has its roots in the printmaking traditions of the 15th century. However, it wasn’t until the 19th century that printmaking became a popular medium for reproducing illustrations. The invention of lithography in 1796 and the development of chromolithography in the mid-1800s gave rise to a new era of printmaking.
