The Detroit Institute of Arts has been named the best art museum in America for the second year running in USA Today's 2024 10 Best Readers' Choice Awards. The museum is celebrated for its extensive collection and currently features the special exhibition "Regeneration: Black Cinema 1898 – 1971."


USA Today readers have crowned the Detroit Institute of Arts as America's finest art museum in the 2024 10 Best Readers' Choice Awards. This marks the second year in a row that the museum has received this honor, beating out other notable establishments including the Art Institute of Chicago.

The Newspaper describes the museum as residing in an exquisite Beaux-Arts structure, boasting a vast and varied collection exceeding 65,000 items, making it one of the most expansive and diverse in the country. The facility offers visitors the chance to immerse themselves in worldwide artistic achievements across over 100 exhibition spaces. This includes the pioneering Center for African American Art, a trailblazer in dedicating a significant space to African American artists within a major art institution.

The 10 Best Readers' Choice Awards by USA Today celebrates excellence across various categories such as travel, cuisine, and lifestyle, with winners determined through a public voting process following initial nominations from industry specialists.

Salvador Salort-Pons, the director of the Detroit Institute of Arts, expressed his thrill over the museum's repeat victory, crediting it to the exceptional quality of its collections and exhibitions and the committed efforts of its staff to offer educational and enjoyable visits.

Currently, the museum is showcasing "Regeneration: Black Cinema 1898 – 1971," an exhibition examining the historical progression of Black filmmakers and actors, which is open to the public until June 23.
