Leur rêve veille 2 (2020) Painting by Armel Jullien

Self-taught artist, Armel Jullien began painting alone by studying the paintings of painters from the Middle Ages to the Baroque and drawing inspiration from the nature that surrounds him. Portraits and the rural world are his two favorite subjects. He paints and recomposes his environment with an apparent simplicity where the emotions and sensitivity of his characters are forcefully revealed to the spectators.

Attracted by everyday subjects, he has been creating figurative paintings for around thirty years. years. Encounters, an unexpected event can give birth to a work where realism mixes with a poetic reflection on the banality of everyday life and the beauty of nature.

After drawing and then watercolor, oil painting imposes itself on him. Figurative and very realistic, his paintings seem to reproduce reality with an almost photographic rendering. They nevertheless hide recomposed scenes, improbable, even imaginary, encounters. From realism to fantasy, there is indeed only one step for this multifaceted artist who plays with appearances in order to arouse our curiosity and take us out of our usual framework.
