ASMA KOCJAN - ARTIST PROFILE
Since 2001 I have been working as a committed and passionate painter.
My picturesque passion is based on daily impressions, media influences and moods.
I turn everything professional skillfully in my own imagery and symbolism of inner experience to the outside. My
means of artistic expression are mainly abstract acrylic painting and collage techniques. I work with elaborate filling
techniques in which I apply several layers and remove a part of it again.
Because of that, my works are created with “thoughtfulness”. I have a special affinity for mixed techniques, using
different materials and techniques. My artistic work is shaped in creative cycles. These individual cycles are based
on intensive examination of the respective topic.
My artistic focus is on faceless figures, mostly female. At the beginning they are precise, then I abstract them more
and more. Those sometimes ghostly figures are at times a reminiscent of sculptures by the sculptor Giacometti.
My artistic career began
1983 at the Higher Technical College of Fine Arts in Graz, Department of Art (Painting), where I graduated in 1988.
1989 to 1992 masterclass for painting at the HTBLA in Linz.
1993 to 1994 Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna.
1995 to 1998 Academy of Fine Arts in Prague.
From 1985 to 2000, I worked as an international photo model.
2001 to 2005 perfection of acrylic painting using various painting techniques, especially collages and multimedia
art.
2006 to 2008 I studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in Bad Reichenhall, Germany.
2007 I joined the Association of Visual Artists in Salzburg.
Since 2009 I have been working in Vienna and Graz.
