A variety of different paintings are removed from their backing ready to be cut, arranged, and glued on the canvas in a contemporary collage with a unique twist. For those who like cool but not, necessarily, calm.

Australia based UK artist Julee spent years relocating internationally many times. Continually breaking ties and beginning again inspires her technique of deconstruction and reinvention of paint as a material.

Thoughts that paint could be capable of independent existence from the canvas resulted in her process of painting on plastic to enable subsequent removal when dry. Julee exploits the inherent flexibility to explore her interests in textile, collage, and sculptural techniques.

Intricately detailed works are the result of many hours of meticulous cutting, layering and gluing. Ultimately, Julee’s core aim is to generate conversation about the nature of painting and to challenge expectations of what a painting can be.
