Pancho Porto (Santiago de Compostela, 1988), comenzó su formación en la especialidad de ebanistería artística en el centro Antonio Failde de Ourense. En esta escuela tiene su primera toma de contacto con disciplinas como la talla, el dibujo o el modelado, y lo que es más importante, con el trabajo en el taller.
Más adelante se matricula en la escuela de Artes y Oficios Mestre Mateo de Santiago de Compostela, donde estudia la que en el futuro será su principal disciplina: la escultura. Es en esta escuela donde ya trabaja materiales que serán básicos en su obra, como el acero o la arcilla. Paralelamente, Porto continúa su formación de manera personal e investiga otros materiales como el bronce o las resinas y sus múltiples usos y acabados decantándose por el uso del bronce y el acero como material definitivo para sus obras.
Tras esta primera etapa de formación, decide instalar su taller a orillas del río Sarela, muy cerca del lugar donde nació. Es aquí donde inicia su particular investigación tanto teórica como práctica de la relación entre los materiales empleados en cada obra y el mensaje que estas transmiten. Esto le lleva a buscar nuevas propuestas a la hora de comunicar y narrar su historia. Desde entonces, esta será la tónica habitual de sus obras, dotando así de complejidad y trasfondo al conjunto de su trabajo, con temas que tocan tanto el ámbito social como sus vivencias personales.

Pancho Porto is a contemporary Spanish sculptor. He embarked on his artistic journey with a foundation in artistic cabinetmaking at the Antonio Failde center in Ourense. Here, he not only gained proficiency in the craft but also had his initial encounters with crucial disciplines such as carving, drawing, and modeling. Most significantly, it was within the workshop environment that Porto cultivated the hands-on skills integral to his future work.
His educational path led him to the Mestre Mateo School of Arts and Crafts in Santiago de Compostela, where he honed his focus on sculpture, shaping the trajectory of his artistic endeavors. The school provided a platform for Porto to experiment with materials that would become fundamental to his artistic expression, including steel and clay. Simultaneously, he pursued personal training and delved into the exploration of materials like bronze and resins, examining their diverse applications and finishes. Ultimately, Porto gravitated towards bronze and steel as the definitive mediums for his creations.
Following this initial phase of formal training, Pancho Porto took a decisive step by establishing his own workshop along the banks of the Sarela River, near his place of birth. It was within this space that he embarked on a nuanced exploration, both theoretically and practically, delving into the intricate relationship between the materials employed in each artwork and the messages they conveyed. This quest led him to constantly seek new proposals in communicating and narrating his stories, becoming a defining characteristic of his artistic approach.
From this point onward, Pancho Porto consistently infused complexity and depth into his works. Themes explored in his sculptures span the spectrum from social issues to personal experiences, adding layers of meaning to his artistic endeavors. His dedication to investigating the interplay of materials and the narratives they carry sets the tone for his unique and thought-provoking body of work. Pancho Porto's sculptures stand as a testament to his ongoing commitment to pushing artistic boundaries and offering viewers a rich tapestry of stories, reflections, and emotions.
