Raphael Mallon, a contemporary French painter, was born in Chamonix in 1974 and spent his formative years in Saint Gervais, surrounded by the imposing presence of the high mountains. These early experiences instilled in him a profound awareness of the perilous nature of the mountain environment and the fragile existence of humanity within it. This awareness, coupled with a sense of the hidden essence of life, became central to Mallon's artistic perspective.
Mallon's relationship with the concept of void is intrinsic to his artistic approach. He seeks to explore and confront the void, allowing himself to be captivated by the enigmatic presence of negative space and the infinite potential it holds within each subject he portrays.
His journey into painting began in the late 1990s, but it was a pivotal encounter with Grégogna, a multidisciplinary painter and a prominent figure in the School of Sète and Free Figuration, that set him on the path to artistic pursuit. Under Grégogna's guidance, Mallon honed his craft and developed his unique artistic voice.
Settling in the Paris region, Mallon became a member of the prestigious Salon d'Automne in the late 2000s. He later directed the Myths & Realities exhibition series until 2015, choosing to forego the presidency to focus entirely on his artistic endeavors.
As vice-president of the Salon de Versailles until 2019, Mallon felt a pull towards his mountainous roots, which he believed would better nurture the creative spirit within him. In 2020, he returned to Haute-Savoie to establish his workshop in a small hamlet at the Col du Feu, overlooking Lake Geneva.
Mallon's works are regularly showcased at exhibitions in Paris, throughout France, and internationally, where they captivate audiences with their depth, introspection, and profound exploration of the human condition amidst the vastness of nature.
