Rosario Rubilar, a contemporary Uruguayan painter, embarked on her artistic journey during the post-dictatorship period, offering a profound recognition and appreciation of the River Plate culture. In the wake of this tumultuous era, her work emerged as a vibrant tribute to the figures of daily life and the unique idiosyncrasies of customs within this cultural context. Notably, her art captured the essence of "orillera" iconography, a term articulated by former Uruguayan President Julio María Sanguinetti.

As Rosario's artistic expression evolved, it embraced a more vivid color palette, driven by international recognition and a heightened revaluation of Rio de la Plata culture. Her themes expanded to incorporate elements such as miscegenation, influenced by the intersection of the sacred and the lunfardo.

In her contemporary stage, marked by radical changes in her life, Rosario Rubilar shifted her gaze towards the exploration of techniques and textures. Although these elements may seem impersonal and global, they carry a profound message in relation to her work. This new stage in her artistic journey becomes an exhibition of the death of cultural identity, offering a thought-provoking reflection on the evolution and transformation of her artistic narrative.

Rosario's paintings serve as a visual narrative that transcends political and social shifts, capturing the essence of a cultural identity that undergoes metamorphosis over time. Her exploration of techniques and textures reflects not only a personal evolution but also a poignant commentary on the broader shifts in cultural identity within the River Plate region.
