William Castaño

The man and his Work

The 039;man.

Born in 1955 in Colombia in Montenegro Quindio.

William Castaño manifested his taste and aptitude for painting and sculpture very early on. He successfully spent five years at the I.P.C. School of Fine Arts. in Cali.

In 1979, he traveled to various European countries to perfect his culture.

He finally settled in Paris. From 1981, he participated with his work in the Salon d'Automne at the Grand Palais as well as in national and international exhibitions.

In 1990, he fell in love with the city of #039;Argenteuil, in Val d'Oise where he decided to settle, it's a funny wink if we remember that Manet, Monet and Pissarro , haunted these places for a long time and founded the association of impressionist painters there in 1873.

In 2011, William also marked the artistic history of the town by enriching the municipal heritage with his moving statue "Supplication" commemorating the abolition of slavery and which can be admired in front of the music conservatory.

Passionate creator, William also likes to share his knowledge, his know-how and his enthusiasm. This is why; he runs educational workshops for his students. You must have attended one of these sessions to appreciate this astonishing cocktail of concentration and conviviality, of zenitude and feverish creativity where he manages to forge a special bond with each participant.

< strong>The work.

As comfortable in classical representation as in non-figurative expression, William likes to use the most varied techniques. In his protean work, three trends (among many others!) can be identified:

His love of the female body translated by so many rewarding expressions. Sometimes these bodies are draped in a vaporous gauze of which the artist has the secret. They then distill to the observer a delicate sensuality nourished by the mysteries protected by the fragile screen.

His desire to give the most banal things a dimension and an attraction that is too often unsuspected. The fruit series is the perfect illustration of this. The subtle play of lighting, the contrast of shadows and lights magnify and transcend objects that superficial experience would too quickly qualify as trivial.

His desire to include his work in an approach citizen serving the community. This is evidenced by the paintings, in the series 'Wounded Earth', denouncing the ravages of pollution on our environment. It is not only about our biological survival but also an invasion by the ugly of our perceptions.

We can only wish everyone a personal visit to the world. world of William Castaño to appreciate its many and rich facets.
